Help us show our politicians that Scotland wants, and can have a better future for our seas!
- Join us this week when the Our Seas Coalition and supporters will be gathering outside the Scottish Parliament for the future of our oceans and sustainable fisheries (main entrance of the Scottish Parliament, 12.30pm-2pm, 26th June).
- And please email your MSPs (suggest text below) and ask them to meet and stand with representatives of the Our Seas Coalition in the Scottish Parliament on Thursday 26th June, in support of urgent action for our seas.
Scotland is a major case-study in the new film, Ocean with David Attenborough, which documents the hugely damaging impacts of bottom-trawling on marine habitats. Don McNeish, co-founder of the Community of Arran Seabed Trust (a founding member of this coalition), features in the film and shows that where protection is in place, the marine ecosystem recovers and can then underpin more sustainable fishing activity.
Scotland’s inshore seas have been driven into decline after decades of mismanagement, but a well-managed marine environment can secure more protection, fish and more jobs in our seas. Ahead of the next Scottish Parliament elections, this should be a high priority.
In the run-up to the election, the Our Seas Coalition is now inviting all Our Seas coalition members and supporters to share their care and concern for our oceans and the future of sustainable fisheries. Over 14,000 people have now signed the coalition’s petition to protect at least 30% of our coastal seas by reinstating an inshore limit on bottom-trawling and dredging.
Join us outside Scottish Parliament on Thursday (26th June) and keep the oceans in the spotlight!

Dear MSP
I am a supporter of the Our Seas Coalition (www.ourseas.scot). As one of your constituents, I would like you to stand with representatives of the Our Seas Coalition in the Scottish Parliament in the Garden Lobby after First Ministers Questions this Thursday afternoon, 26th June. I believe that we must take urgent action to protect and restore the health of our seas and prioritise sustainable, low impact inshore fishing.
